Goofing around when practicing tennis would be like going to the gym and lifting "some" weights. No one that really wants to get in better shape believes it would happen without a plan, charting progress, and pushing past failure...
So, if you are serious about improving your tennis game, create a practice plan, keep track of progress and be willing to push yourself to failure and beyond.
When you fail you will learn from the experience and grow because of it.
